200 Golden Gate Avenue, Belvedere, the former residence of Andrew L. Pansini, inventor of the automatic pool cleaner, has been listed by Bill and Nancy Stewart. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1958 by architect John Lord King, the home was crafted to take advantage of the extraordinary surrounding outdoor areas by bringing them indoors. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame spectacular views from the kitchen, dining room, family room, living room and the master bedroom, all on the ground floor. The home is set on a 43,000+/-sf lot on the crest of Belvedere, and was designed to maximize the views of the San Francisco Bay.
Pansini’s automatic pool cleaner completely revolutionized the swimming pool industry. Released under the name of Pool Sweep by Pansini’s company, Jandy Products, the automatic pool cleaner made maintenance of a swimming pool much easier, allowing the swimming pool industry to expand greatly. The brand name Jandy remains one of the most popular and respected names in the swimming pool industry today.
Pansini developed many other products, receiving over 40 patents. One such product, the Leaf Master, is still the number one product for removing leaves from pools. He developed several generations of swimming pool cleaners, as well as a line of electronic controls so that the operation of a pool could be done automatically from inside a home.
Pansini settled at 200 Golden Gate Avenue, Belvedere in 1976, and his last invention is installed in the pool at the home. “The Retriever” automatically removes the swimming pool cleaner from the swimming pool each day and stores it out of sight.
